Where & When to Use
Where to Use: This product is your go-to for patching up bare spots. It's guaranteed to work in all sorts of tough places, like full sun, dense shade, high-traffic areas, and even on slopes. (subject to proper care)
How to Use: This is for patching and repairing bare spots in your lawn.
When to Use: The sweet spot for applying is in the spring or fall, when daytime temperatures are consistently between 60°F and 80°F.
How Often to Use: Use as needed to patch any bare or thin spots that pop up.
How To Use
- Get the Spot Ready: First, clear out any dead grass and rough up the soil a bit with a rake. This helps the new seeds get a good start.
- Apply by Hand: Now, just shake the EZ Seed evenly over the bare spot. You'll want it mostly covered, but with a little ground still visible. That's the sweet spot.
- Water It In: Give the patch a deep, gentle soak until the mulch is completely saturated. Don't skip this step—it's the most important one!
Watering Tips
That first deep watering is super important. After that, the mulch does the work for you. When it's dark brown, you're all good. Once it starts to turn light brown, you know it's thirsty and time for another light sprinkle. It really takes the guesswork out of watering.
Product Tips
- Let the New Grass Grow: We know it's tempting, but keep foot traffic (and the mower!) off the new patches until the grass is at least 3 inches tall. This helps it grow in strong.
- Plant at the Right Time: You'll have the best luck planting in the spring or fall when the weather's just right—think daytime temps between 60°F and 80°F.
Product Safety
- Kids & Pets: Let the new grass grow to at least 3 inches before letting the family and pets play on it.
- A Note on the Seed: We've treated the seed with a fungicide to protect it from disease. Because of this, it's not meant for food, feed, or oil. Just be sure to store it away from any food.
Frequently Asked Questions
How do I store leftover product?
Got some left over? No problem. Just keep it in the bag and pop it in a cool, dry place like your garage or a shed, safely away from kids and pets.
How does the mulch tell me when to water?
It’s simple. The mulch is dark brown when it’s properly moist. When it starts to turn light brown, that’s your signal that the seeds are thirsty and it’s time to water again.
How long does it take for the grass to grow?
You'll see the first seedlings pop up in about 5-7 days, and with proper care, you'll have a nice patch of grass in a few weeks. Just remember 3 inches tall before you mow it.
Can I use this to overseed my whole lawn?
This product is designed specifically for patching bare spots. For overseeding your entire lawn, we recommend using one of our Scotts Turf Builder grass seed products with a spreader.
