Frequently Asked Questions

Do any of these products kill Fire Ants?

Yes, Ortho® Ant B Gon® MAX Killer Granules effectively eliminates fire ants, as well as other species of ants, including foraging ants, sweet-feeding ants, pavement ants, moisture ants, little black ants, argentine ants, acrobat ants, cornfield ants, field ants, ghost ants, odorous house ants, thief ants, Harvester ants, Pharaoh ants, and other common ant species.

Indoors:

  • Kitchen: Place the traps near areas where food is stored or prepared, such as under sinks, in cupboards, or near appliances.
  • Bathroom: Ants are attracted to moisture, so placing traps under sinks, near showers or bathtubs, or around pipes can be effective.
  • Living Areas: Place traps along baseboards, in corners, or near potential entry points like doors and windows.

Outdoors:

  • Near Ant Hills: If you notice ant hills in your yard, place traps nearby to target the colony directly.
  • Entry Points: Place traps near potential entry points to your home, such as doors, windows, or cracks in the foundation.
  • Garden: If ants are a problem in your garden, you can place traps around the perimeter or near plants that are being affected.

Attractant: The traps contain a sweet liquid bait that is highly attractive to ants. This lure encourages ants to enter the trap and consume the bait.

Insecticide: Once the ants ingest the bait, they also ingest the insecticide contained within it. This insecticide is slow-acting, allowing the ants to return to their colony and share the bait with other ants, including the queen.

When using Ortho® Ant B Gon® Max Ant Eliminator Liquid, it's important to take the following precautions:

  • Do Not Ingest: If swallowed, seek medical attention immediately. Do not induce vomiting unless directed to do so by a healthcare professional.

  • Avoid Contamination of Food and Water Sources: Do not apply this product in a way that will contact any body of water or food preparation areas.

After successfully eliminating ants, it's important to clean up properly to prevent future infestations. Here are some tips:

  • Clean the Area: Thoroughly clean the areas where you noticed ant activity. Use a disinfectant cleaner to wipe down surfaces and mop floors. This helps remove any pheromone trails left by the ants that could attract more ants.
  • Seal Entry Points: Look for cracks, crevices, or other small openings where ants may have been entering your home. Seal these points with caulk or another appropriate material to prevent future invasions.
  • Proper Food Storage: Store food in airtight containers and clean up food spills immediately to avoid attracting ants.
  • Regular Inspection: Regularly inspect your home for signs of ant activity, especially during warmer months when ants are most active.
