Description

Scotts® WeedEx™ Prevent with Halts® prevents crabgrass and other problem weeds for a beautiful lawn all season long. In early spring, apply when the lawn is dry to prevent the germination of crabgrass, foxtail, spurge, barnyardgrass, fall panicum, and oxalis. Apply in the fall (August-October) to prevent moss (except in California), or to prevent the germination of Poa annua, henbit, corn speedwell, and chickweed. We recommend using a Scotts® spreader to apply this product. For Scotts® broadcast/rotary spreaders, use a setting of 2 ÂĽ. For Scotts® drop spreaders, use a setting of 4 ½. For Scotts® Wizz®, use a setting of 3 ÂĽ. For best results, the lawn should receive ÂĽ to ½ inch of water from rainfall or watering within 2-3 days after application. Rain, snow, or freezing weather after application will not affect performance. This product controls crabgrass in its early stages of growth. It does not control mature crabgrass and other existing weeds. Do not apply to Dichondra and Bentgrass. One 10.06 lb. bag of Scotts® WeedEx™ Prevent with Halts® covers 5,000 sq. ft.

How to Use

  • Check bag for spreader setting
  • When using a Scotts® broadcast or Wizz® spreader, make a perimeter pass of your lawn with EdgeGuard® on to protect non-lawn areas. Then, make parallel internal passes 5 ft. apart to ensure even coverage.
  • When using a Scotts drop spreader, start 5 feet from the edge of your lawn and walk the outline of your lawn. Then, make internal passes across your lawn, overlapping the wheel marks to ensure uniform coverage.

Where Not to Use

  • Do NOT apply to dichondra or bentgrass lawns

Where to Use

  • Can be used on all lawn and grass types EXCEPT dichondra and bentgrass

When to Apply

  • Apply once in spring and once in the fall
  • In southern California, apply before March 1st
  • In northern California, apply before mid-March

How Often to Apply

  • Apply a maximum of twice a year with a minimum of 2 months between applications

Watering Tips

  • It is not necessary to water in immediately. For best results, lightly water the lawn to rinse particles from grass blades (up to ÂĽ to ½ inch) within 2-3 days after application.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from This works! Be patient. I have use this in the past with each new yard. I found I had to apply in the fall (Oct in SC and Feb in SC.) Be patient. After 2 years all crabgrass was gone. October application is for poa Anna and February is for summer crabgrass..

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Scotts WeedEx is a great pre-emeregent/preventer! So far I've seen great results using Scotts WeedEx as a pre-emergent on my Bermudagrass lawn here in Central Texas. I put this down on my lawn right before the first of March, just as temperatures were starting to rise. I was already seeing weeds (broadleaf and grassy) starting to pop up so I was worried I was a little late to the game. I went ahead and yanked all the big weeds, and spot-treated the difficult ones with Image. After putting the WeedEx down, I had a few more weeds pop up that had already germinated, but after treating those and looking at my lawn now in Mid-April (a month and a half later), my Bermudagrass is pretty much weed-free as it starts its green-up. I'm very pleased that it seems to have prevented both broadleaf and grassy weeds, including both Crabgrass and POA. I live in a new construction neighborhood that is also near a big open field, so there are weeds literally growing all around, leaving the yard pretty susceptible to new weeds blowing in. But so far Scotts WeedEx has held up strong! A few things to note about Scotts WeedEx: -- This contains Halts, which contains Pendimethalin as the main ingrediant. This is actually a 2-in-1 weed control (prevents broadleaf and grassy weeds) - big plus in my book! -- This is a pre-emergent, which as it says on the bag is a weed PREVENTER. This will prevent weeds from germinating and growing in your yard, but it will not kill existing weeds, so do not buy this thinking that it will. You need something like Image, RoundUp, or BioAdvanced to treat existing weeds in your yard. -- Make sure to follow the instructions on the bag. It gives you recommendations on application timing based on your location, spreader settings, and application directions. You do not have to water this in right away, but you are supposed to within 2-3 days with 1/4-1/2 inch of water. I watered my lawn about 24 hours after I put it down. I'm very happy with the results so far. It states that it prevents weeds "all season long" however, it has only been a month and a half so I can't attest to that. If it continues working well I'll probably stick to what works and put this down again in the fall to protect against winter weeds.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Supposed to kill grass burrs?? I applied this based on bag directions and Neil Sperry recommendations. Early March and early June. I've never had a more prolific crop of grass burrs??? Is this supposed to take awhile? Is there a better product to use. This did absolutely nothing to stop them - I think they are worse. Help!!

Rated 3 out of 5 by from No application rate information This might be a great product, if it bothered to tell you a true application rate. Your only clue is treats "up to" 5000 square feet, and delivers 1.5 pounds of ingredient per acre. Hope you remember your high school algebra and have a calculator handy.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Don't waste your money WeedEx only controlled crabgrass about as well as regular Halts but did nothing to stop any of the other weeds listed. All other weeds came in worse than normal, and the product did Nothing to prevent Oxalis (which is why I wanted to try this product, but Oxalis came in much worse than ever this year). Pretty disappointed.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Poa annua I applied this product for the control of poa annua, since poa annua was listed on the label. I applied twice in the fall and twice early this spring. I was disappointed to see that there was absolutely no control. I understand that poa annua is difficult to control, but I thought I would see at least some results.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Cannot Use This & Seed Lawn - Read the Label I just bought a bag of this expecting to keep the crabgrass at bay. However, I took the advice of a master gardner and read the entire label. Buried deep into the fine print is the statement - DON'T plant seed for four growing months. So now I cannot seed over the bare spots until mid-August
