Our Heritage

Civil War veteran O.M. Scott opened a hardware store in Marysville, OH, in 1868, pioneering the sale of weed-free grass seeds which fueled the rise of the American suburban lawn. In 1951, Horace Hagedorn and Otto Stern founded Miracle-Gro with the goal of making beautiful gardening accessible to everyone. After a century of independent innovation, the two companies merged in 1995 to form ScottsMiracle-Gro.
