Energy and emissions

Conserving resources

Contributing to a greener world starts within our walls. Reducing our energy use and emissions is good for the planet and helps us operate more efficiently.

Evaluating our footprint

To understand where most of our energy consumption and emissions come from, we monitor our environmental footprint and focus on areas where we can make the biggest impact. This ranges from electricity and natural gas to fuel used by our vehicles.

Operating efficiently

We continually invest in energy-efficient equipment – such as upgraded wrappers, grinders, palletizers and mulch colorizers. The result is reduced water and electricity use. And by consolidating our distribution centers, we’ve saved about half a million miles of diesel trucking a year.

Reducing emissions

We work to capture and repurpose emissions from our manufacturing plants. It comes in many forms. With the use of atmospheric scrubbers in our manufacturing process, we’re able to reduce ammonia emissions and transform them into an ammonium sulfate solution for reuse in other industrial applications.

Dramatic ammonia emission reduction

After years of dedicated effort, the Marysville East Plant has reached a major milestone with the installation of a state-of-the-art resin tower and air scrubbing system.

This significant upgrade directly addresses ammonia emissions, a natural byproduct of the plant’s Methylene Urea Resin Process (MURP) used in fertilizer manufacturing. The multi-stage air scrubbing system has delivered a dramatic reduction in these emissions, marking a substantial step forward in environmental responsibility.
