Scotts® Elite Spreader

Description

A homeowner uses a Scotts Elite Broadcast Spreader to apply product to the edge of their lawn near a concrete pathway and landscaped bushes.

Achieve faster and more accurate lawn care with the Scotts® Elite Spreader, usable year-round for feed, seed, weed, and melt (capacity up to 20,000 sq. ft.). This advanced spreader is engineered for a 20% quicker application (compared to a standard 5 ft. spread) thanks to its dual rotors and includes Scotts® EdgeGuard® technology. For easy use, know your lawn size, fill the hopper over a hard surface (like a driveway) to contain spills, and adjust the dial using the setting found on your Scotts® product bag. To apply, squeeze the trigger while walking briskly; release the trigger at turns, ensuring each pass is 6 ft. from the last.

Scotts® Elite Spreader Assembly Guide

  • Prep: Open the box, remove the spreader and hardware, and check that all components are accounted for.
  • Mount Wheels: Slide a wheel onto each end of the axle. On the left side, verify that the axle pin (b) aligns with the wheel slot.
  • Add Washers: Place one washer (c) onto each end of the axle.
  • Insert Cotter Pins: Secure the assembly by inserting a cotter pin (d) through the hole at each axle end. Bend the cotter pin legs (e) firmly around the axle to lock the wheels in place.
  • Apply Hubcaps: Snap the hubcaps (f) onto the tires. Remember to recycle the packaging.

Maintenance and Storage Guidelines

  • Protect Waterways: Never allow leftover product or rinse water to enter storm drains or sewers
  • Empty Spreader: Always remove unused material from the spreader immediately after use. Return it to the original package and seal tightly for storage.
  • Cleanup Spills: If any product spills onto hard surfaces (driveways, sidewalks, roads), sweep it immediately back onto the lawn. This prevents runoff into storm drains.
  • Cleaning: Thoroughly wash the entire spreader, including the underside, after each use. Allow it to dry completely before putting it away.
  • Lubrication: Periodically spray a lubricant on all rotating parts to maintain smooth operation and extend the life of your spreader.

Cleaning and Storage Before storing, thoroughly clean out any leftover product. Store the spreader in a dry place. Calibration Check and Adjustment To check the spreader's calibration, first set the micrometer by turning it until the number 8 is centered in the window. Next, position the spreader by standing it upright on its handle with the Scotts logo facing away from you. Gently press the control lever with your foot and look at the shutoff bar's position. Check for Proper Alignment: While keeping the lever depressed, verify that the raised pointer on the shutoff bar aligns exactly with the bottom of the calibration line (you may need to pull the shutoff bar slightly forward to view the line clearly).

Adjusting the Calibration Screw: If the alignment is incorrect, use the calibration screw:

  • If the shutoff bar covers the calibration line, turn the screw counter-clockwise.
  • If the bar is positioned below the calibration line, turn the screw clockwise.

The spreader features a heavy-duty frame for excellent stability and a 22-inch spread pattern for maximum coverage and accuracy. Its large capacity hopper holds up to 15,000 sq. ft. of Scotts® products, including grass seed, fertilizer, salt, and ice melt.

Scotts® Wizz™ Spreader

Description

The Scotts® Wizz™ Spreader is a battery-powered, handheld spreader ideal for year-round use with grass seed, fertilizer, salt, or ice melt. It offers superior control and accuracy, featuring a 5 ft. broadcast width, Edgeguard® technology, and 23 customizable settings. This spreader holds enough product to cover up to 2,500 sq. ft.

Assembly (Battery Installation) The Scotts Wizz includes four replaceable AA batteries. A small Phillips screwdriver is required to remove the screw securing the battery cover. Replace the old batteries with new AA batteries, ensuring correct positioning according to the diagram inside the compartment. You may use alkaline, carbon-zinc, or rechargeable batteries, but do not mix battery types. Securely replace the battery cover and screw.

Getting Started & Application Always read and follow the product label directions before use. The spreader holds enough product to cover up to 2,500 sq. ft.

  • Set: Turn the orange dial to the correct setting listed on the product label.
  • Perimeter Pass: Engage the EdgeGuard to protect non-lawn areas and apply a perimeter pass.
  • Spread: Begin walking at a steady pace (about 4 ft. per second). Hold the spreader comfortably and pull the trigger to start the application.
  • Internal Passes: Make parallel passes, keeping them 5 feet apart to ensure even coverage.

Tip for Salt/Ice Melt: When spreading ice melt or rock salt, point the Wizz slightly downward to prevent product buildup from clogging behind the rotor plate.

Before storing, remove any leftover product and keep the spreader in a dry location. If the spreader will not be used for an extended period, remove the batteries. Note that the unit comes pre-calibrated from the manufacturer and should not require manual adjustment.

The battery-powered spreader (requires 4 AA batteries) features EdgeGuard® technology to ensure accurate application by controlling the 5 ft. broadcast and keeping product off non-lawn areas. With one-touch control and 23 precision settings, the unit holds enough product to cover up to 2,500 sq. ft.

No replacement parts available for this spreader.

Spreader setting not available?

How to calculate the correct spreader setting when no setting is available or you're using a non-Scotts product with a Scotts spreader

If you are using a non-Scotts product or the required setting is unavailable for your Scotts spreader, you must determine the correct setting through testing. To begin, calculate the amount of product needed to cover 1,000 square feet (e.g., divide the bag weight by the total coverage area, then multiply by 1,000 sq. ft.). Place only this calculated amount into the hopper. Start with a very low spreader setting and apply the product only to the 1,000 square foot test area. If you have leftover product, increase the setting; if you run out, decrease the setting.

Note that flow rate depends on the particle size and density of the specific product, and the user assumes all risks associated with adjusting the flow rate.
