How Often to Use: Use this mix to start your seeds. Once your seedlings have their first set of true leaves, it's time to transplant them.
How To Use
For Seed Starting:
- Select Container: Select a shallow container or tray with a drain hole.
- Fill: Fill the container with Miracle-Gro Indoor Potting Mix for Seed Starting.
- Plant: Plant your seeds according to the package directions.
- Water: Water lightly and let the excess drain.
- Care: Keep the mix moist and place your container out of direct sunlight.
For Established Cuttings:
- Select & Fill: Select a container with a drain hole and fill it with mix.
- Water: Water the mix thoroughly.
- Propagate: Make a small hole and insert your cutting. 4. Press: Press the mix lightly around the stem to secure it. 5. Care: Keep the mix moist and place your container out of direct sunlight.
Watering Tips
Your new seeds and cuttings are delicate! This mix is designed to hold moisture, but you'll need to check it often. Keep the mix consistently moist but not soggy. A spray bottle can be a great tool for gentle watering.

- When to Transplant: Once your seedlings grow their first set of "true leaves" (the second set of leaves that appear), it's time to move them to a larger pot! We recommend transplanting them into a quality mix like Miracle-Gro Indoor Potting Mix for All Plants.
- Cutting Propagation: When propagating stem and leaf cuttings, a rooting hormone or gel, like Miracle-Gro Plant Care Root Starter Gel, can help with propagation success! Just dip your cutting in gel before placing it in the soil.

Is this product the same as Miracle-Gro Seed Starting Potting Mix?
Yes. Our Miracle-Gro Seed Starting Potting Mix got a name upgrade to Indoor Potting Mix for Seed Starting. It also got a fresher, cleaner look on the outside, but we didn't change the goodness on the inside.
If I have product leftover, how do I store it?
We're glad you asked! To keep your leftover indoor gardening soil in great shape, simply seal the bag (a clip or tape works great!) and store it in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight.
Why can't I just use regular potting soil to start my seeds?
That's a great question! You can, but this mix makes it so much easier. It's specially formulated to be extra lightweight, which makes it easier for tiny, delicate roots to push through. Regular potting mix can sometimes be too dense or coarse for brand new seedlings.
How do I know when to transplant my seedlings?
We're so glad you're planning ahead! You'll know it's time to transplant when your seedlings develop their first set of "true leaves." These are the leaves that grow after the very first pair (which are called "seed leaves"). Once you see those true leaves, your plant is ready for a bigger pot!

Excellent performance
This has been an incredible potting mix/seed starter mix! I actually used it to nurture my seedlings that grew in my hydroponic system. They did beautifully! I was amazed at its performance, it kept them alive and thriving til I was able to transplant outdoors.
It was very fluffy and alllowed water to easily drain. No mold, no pests, and virtually weightless.
Highly recommend for anyone wanting to start seeds!

Seeds germinated fast!
I used this soil to grow impatients for the season, I was rather surprised how fast the seeds germinated and started growing inside, without the need of a grow light. In fact it happened so fast my flowers are all grown and still too cold out of to bring them out. It was very easy to use, just filled the trays and add your seeds, retains water well and does the job. I used some of the leftover soil to fill in my potted plants that live inside and it must have quite a bit of nutrients because they are thriving, the violet that was kind of sick is now all green and flowering. Same for a little potted plant that was struggling, it seems to be in better health. This soil I a must have for people that enjoy gardening of any kind

The texture is light. The plants looks healthy
I recently used a miracle go indoor potting mix for seed starting and it worked really well. The texture is light and very easy to use. It holds the moisture very well. My seeding seems to be sprouting really well and faster. The roots and plants look really healthy too. It's very light weight. It's a great choice for beginners.
