Where to Use: This seed is perfect for starting a new lawn from scratch or for thickening up an existing one in the Northeast.

How to Use: Use it to start a brand-new lawn or to overseed the one you've already got.

When to Use: The best time to plant is in the spring or fall when temperatures are consistently between 60°F and 80°F.

How Often to Use: For best results, overseed your lawn with this product once a year to keep it thick and healthy.

For a New Lawn:

  1. Get the Ground Ready: Grab a rake and loosen up the top couple of inches of soil, clearing out any rocks or dead grass.
  2. Spread the Seed: Pour the product into your Scotts spreader, dial in the ""New Lawn"" setting, and apply it evenly.
  3. Gently Tuck it In: Lightly rake the seed into the top layer of soil. You just want it barely covered.
  4. Give it a Drink: This part is key. Water daily (or as needed) to keep the soil moist until the new grass is at least 2 inches tall.

For Overseeding:

  1. Get Your Lawn Ready: Mow your lawn nice and short (about 2 inches). Then, give it a good rake to loosen the soil and clear out any dead stuff.
  2. Time to Spread: Fill up your spreader, set it to the ""Overseeding"" setting, and walk at a steady pace to get even coverage.
  3. Just Add Water: Water every day, or as needed, to keep the soil damp until the new seedlings are at least 2 inches tall.

New Lawn:

  • Scotts Broadcast/Rotary Spreaders: 9 1/2
  • Scotts Hand-Held Spreaders: 5 (3 passes)
  • Scotts Drop Spreaders: 18 (2 passes)
  • Scotts Wizz Spreader: 9
  • Scotts Elite Spreader: 7 1/2

Overseeding:

  • Scotts Broadcast/Rotary Spreaders: 4 3/4
  • Scotts Hand-Held Spreaders: 5
  • Scotts Drop Spreaders: 16
  • Scotts Wizz Spreader: 4 3/4
  • Scotts Elite Spreader: 4 3/4

You'll want to water the newly seeded area every day for at least three weeks to keep the soil surface moist. This is the most important step for success. An automatic timer can be a real game-changer here, making sure you don't miss a watering.

  • Let it Grow: We know you're eager to mow, but let the new grass grow until it's at least 2 inches tall before its first trim.
  • Keep it Fed: To keep that awesome new lawn looking its best, give it a good meal every 8 weeks with a Scotts Lawn Food product.
  • A Note on the Seed: We've treated the seed with a fungicide to protect it from disease. Because of this, it's not meant for food, feed, or oil.
  • Store it Smart: Keep any leftovers in the original bag and store it somewhere cool and dry, away from kids and pets.
  • Keep it Tidy: If any product ends up on your driveway or sidewalk, just sweep it back onto the lawn. This helps keep our local waterways clean.

Frequently Asked Questions

How do I store leftover product?

Got some left over? No sweat. Just keep it in the original bag and store it in a cool, dry place like the garage or shed, safely away from kids and pets.

Every region has its own quirks when it comes to growing a great lawn. We've selected grass seed varieties that are proven to perform best in the Northeast's unique climate, so you're set up for success from the start.

With proper watering, you should start to see the first green sprouts in about 6-12 days. Give it a few weeks, and your lawn will really start to fill in.

This mix is specially formulated for the Northeast, but it's also a great choice for surrounding areas with similar weather. If your lawn faces the same kinds of challenges as one in the Northeast, this mix will feel right at home (subject to availability).

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Deep Green I normally purchase my grass seed from an online seed superstore. However, this spring I had about 200 sq ft of a low spot that I needed to fill. Used this northeast mix with great results. Planting in the spring can be more challenging than the fall, but I got great results with this seed, fertilizer, soil conditioner. Grew in strong and lush. This seed produces the deepest green of any grass that I have used. It does grow a bit faster than my established lawn, but it stands up to traffic. Some research into the selected seed used in this mix indicates they are all top quality selections. I am now trying this seed for my fall lawn renovation and overseeding. My only complaint is that the coverage for a drop spreader does not come close to advertised sq ft using the package settings. Located in Massachusetts. Highly recommended.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great seed!! This bag of turf seed is exactly what I needed to fill in a few spots that were bare in my yard. I am so impressed on how fast this grew! Other seed that I have used in the past have a taken several weeks or over a month and this covered my bare spots in half the time!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Late Start and pleased with results Decided to roll the dice and seeded June 15 and now July 1 we have 3+ inch grass. Lucked out as we had about a solid week and half of on and off rain just about every day. I had bad case of moss did the treatment around Memorial Day using Scotts MossEx which worked out pretty good. Only then did I realize that I needed to get it seeded. Used Scotts starter fertilizer with weed killer but ran out of that and got some Viagro starter fertilizer as local big box ran out of the Scotts. Applied straw mulch after seeding and liming. Wish I had more ofthe Scotts starter with weed killer as now get some weeds with the new grass except where I had preped with the Scotts. Figure in fall will try some Tenacity and other "safe" weed killer for newly seeded lawns to kniock down the weeds and maybe another overseed. Also when I for seeding used a slicer aerator that really got a good seed contact.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Pleasantly surprised - Patches filled in quickly Our lawn had some bare areas where our daughter practiced pitching her softball. I live in southern PA, so this year's weather has been seasonally cooler, not sunny or rainy. I wanted to get this project going before her softball tournament season kicked into full gear. So I followed the directions, properly prepared the area, sprinkled the seed/builder, and waited patiently. Even with the cloudy weather, I've seen SO MUCH improvement in the past two weeks!!! I have pictures of when I first prepared the area, and then you can see now that after a few weeks, the grass is coming in and is over 2 inches long! I recommend this for high-traffic areas, especially areas with patchy grass. I plan to use this to fill in our other regions where the grass is thinning. Kudos Scotts!

My lawn over the Winter needed re-seeding and I used this product. It has been a very strange Spring here in Northeast Pennsylvania with some days being warm and others very cold and dry. After much needed rain the results I feel are getting my lawn to where it should be. Many have complemented me on my lawn and how great it always looks.
