Where to Use: This seed is perfect for starting a new lawn from scratch or for thickening up an existing one in the Pacific Northwest.

How to Use: Use it to start a brand-new lawn or to overseed the one you've already got.

When to Use: The best time to plant is in the spring or fall when temperatures are consistently between 60°F and 80°F.

How Often to Use: For best results, overseed your lawn with this product once a year to keep it thick and healthy.

For a New Lawn:

  1. Get the Ground Ready: Grab a rake and loosen up the top couple of inches of soil, clearing out any rocks or dead grass.
  2. Spread the Seed: Pour the product into your Scotts spreader, dial in the ""New Lawn"" setting, and apply it evenly.
  3. Gently Tuck it In: Lightly rake the seed into the top layer of soil. You just want it barely covered.
  4. Give it a Drink: This part is key. Water daily (or as needed) to keep the soil moist until the new grass is at least 2 inches tall.

For Overseeding:

  1. Get Your Lawn Ready: Mow your lawn nice and short (about 2 inches). Then, give it a good rake to loosen the soil and clear out any dead stuff.
  2. Time to Spread: Fill up your spreader, set it to the ""Overseeding"" setting, and walk at a steady pace to get even coverage.
  3. Just Add Water: Water every day, or as needed, to keep the soil damp until the new seedlings are at least 2 inches tall.

New Lawn:

  • Scotts Broadcast/Rotary Spreaders: 8 (2 passes)
  • Scotts Hand-Held Spreaders: 5 (4 passes)
  • Scotts Drop Spreaders: 18 (4 passes)
  • Scotts Wizz Spreader: 7 (2 passes)
  • Scotts Elite Spreader: 10

Overseeding:

  • Scotts Broadcast/Rotary Spreaders: 6 1/2
  • Scotts Hand-Held Spreaders: 4 (3 passes)
  • Scotts Drop Spreaders: 16 (2 passes)
  • Scotts Wizz Spreader: 5 1/2
  • Scotts Elite Spreader: 5 3/4

You'll want to water the newly seeded area every day for at least three weeks to keep the soil surface moist. This is the most important step for success. An automatic timer can be a real game-changer here, making sure you don't miss a watering.

  • Let it Grow: We know you're eager to mow, but let the new grass grow until it's at least 2 inches tall before its first trim.
  • Keep it Fed: To keep that awesome new lawn looking its best, give it a good meal every 8 weeks with a Scotts Lawn Food product.
  • A Note on the Seed: We've treated the seed with a fungicide to protect it from disease. Because of this, it's not meant for food, feed, or oil.
  • Store it Smart: Keep any leftovers in the original bag and store it somewhere cool and dry, away from kids and pets.
  • Keep it Tidy: If any product ends up on your driveway or sidewalk, just sweep it back onto the lawn. This helps keep our local waterways clean.

Frequently Asked Questions

How do I store leftover product?

Got some left over? No sweat. Just keep it in the original bag and store it in a cool, dry place like the garage or shed, safely away from kids and pets.

Every region has its own personality, especially when it comes to weather. We've selected grass seed varieties that are proven to perform best in the Pacific Northwest's unique climate, so you're set up for success right from the start.

With proper watering, you should start to see the first green sprouts in about 6-12 days. Give it a few weeks, and your lawn will really start to fill in.

This mix is specially formulated for the Pacific Northwest, but it will also perform well in surrounding areas with similar climates (subject to availability).

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Beautiful dark green lawn I planted in May so it was a little cool and took two weeks to germinate. I sprinkled lightly several times a day if it was drying out. It grew quickly into a beautiful dark green fine turf after germination.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Very happy with the results! Son had put a pile of dirt on a tarp on the grass and forgot about it. First picture is what happened. Used the Pacific Northwest Mix to repair the damage. Directions were easy to follow and seed was easy to spread. After three weeks the results were amazing! Now I'm going to use it to repair some old dog spots!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Good seed The Scoots Grass seed is really good size seed. My husband used this bag to fill in patchy areas of grass within the lawn. He wanted to make the lawn look fuller to where grass died over the winter. He had to loosen the dirt and bag was easy to open and spread the seed with a bucket. This was an application and fit the grass for the nothrwest. It’s only been a two weeks so we have been watering recently to keep up and make sure some grow. My husband left a patch for testing the seed grow and we got a few sprouts already. The bag was convenient to open with a bucket to spread the seed. It’s cover alot of f area as we have a smaller year. Definitely do not leave the bag on a wet surfaces as the bag will get wet within the seed and possibly tear. Overall this is a good seed that we hope to see more sprouting with minimal effort.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Quality Grass Seed I had some thin and bare patches in the yard from moss over the winter. After thatching I put down the seed and started to see results after about a week. I appreciate the blue color of the seed - helps greatly with the application process.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great Seed, definitely use again! This by far is one of the best grass seeds I have tried here in WA. We ended up having a septic issue and had to tear up the back yard and this grass blended in so well with what we already have and came in quicker and fuller then others we have tried.
