Where to Use: This seed is perfect for starting a new lawn from scratch or for thickening up an existing one. It's a great choice for lawns that need to be tough and low-maintenance.
How to Use: Use it to start a brand-new lawn or to overseed the one you've already got.
When to Use: The best time to plant is in the spring or fall when temperatures are consistently between 65°F and 85°F.
How Often to Use: For best results, overseed your lawn with this product once a year to keep it thick and healthy.
How To Use
For a New Lawn:
- Get the Ground Ready: Grab a rake and loosen up the top couple of inches of soil, clearing out any rocks or dead grass.
- Spread the Seed: Pour the product into your Scotts spreader, dial in the ""New Lawn"" setting, and apply it evenly.
- Gently Tuck it In: Lightly rake the seed into the top layer of soil. You just want it barely covered.
- Give it a Drink: This part is key. Water daily (or as needed) to keep the soil moist until the new grass is at least 2 inches tall.
For Overseeding:
- Get Your Lawn Ready: Mow your lawn nice and short (about 2 inches). Then, give it a good rake to loosen the soil and clear out any dead stuff.
- Time to Spread: Fill up your spreader, set it to the ""Overseeding"" setting, and walk at a steady pace to get even coverage.
- Just Add Water: Water every day, or as needed, to keep the soil damp until the new seedlings are at least 2 inches tall.

Watering Tips

What makes Tall Fescue so durable?

Will this grow in a very shady area?
While our Tall fescue mix can handle some shade, it's happiest in areas that get a good amount of sun. If you have a lawn with a lot of dense shade, our Sun & Shade Mix is probably your best bet.

With proper watering and the right temperatures, you should start to see the first green sprouts in about 6-10 days. Give it a few weeks, and your lawn will really start to fill in and get established.

It's working!!
We had a very patchy and unhealthy lawn filled with dandelions, moss and thatch. We spent about a month killing weeds and moss, de-thatching and aerating. 10 days ago, we spread the seed as directed for overseeding, topped with a 1/4" layer of lawn soil and watered as needed to keep the top layer of soil moist (quite a few
waterings, since it is July and we have had very little to no rain and warm temps). Lo and behold, after 6 days tiny blades started poking through and at 10 days we have new baby grass sprouts all over!!! It is filling in very nicely and is starting to look like the lawn I always dreamed of!

I never thought I could do this! IF I can do it so can YOU!!!!
Kicked 2 outside dogs out of a fenced side yard into our fenced bigger back yard after they destroyed our side yard by digging holes everywhere & killing what grass was there. 800# later of fill dirt & Scotts Top Soil & not even a full week we saw GREAT results! Living in in Houston I was VERY worried about choosing the Fescue Mix but I wanted SOFT grass like I had growing up in the Chicago 'Burbs. 2 weeks later i am AMAZED at the beauty of it & how quickly it is filling in! I bought a timer to water it all, every 6 hours for 7 minutes. The yard & grass seem to be doing GREAT! Thanks Scotts for a wonderful product. I cannot wait to mow it & fertilize it as time goes on!

I just cleaned the dead weed area, spread 2 bags of dirt, by hand spread the scoots grass seed , add a little dirt on top, watered a little everyday .

Fast Germinating Seeds
I raked, cleaned bare areas (removed weeds), and seeded with Scotts Tall Fescue Grass Seed Mix. Next, I applied the Turf Builder Starter Food plus Weed Preventer. Within 4 weeks, I started seeing 1/4 to 1/2 inch new grass. I also noticed the seeds were weed free. I highly recommend using these seeds with Scotts Turf Builder Starter Food plus Weed Preventer. I'm very happy with my results.

Amazing seed
This grass seed is amazing.... I loosened up the ground and watered it for several minutes. Then applied the grass seed and sprinkled some scotts lawn soil on top of that and in less then 2 weeks the patch I seeded was filled with grass sprouts!!!!
