Where to Use: Safe for use on all lawns except dichondra and bentgrass. Apply to your established lawn in early spring to prevent crabgrass and feed your grass.

When to Use: Apply in early spring when your lawn is dry, before your 3rd or 4th mowing, and before air temperatures regularly reach the 80s.

1. Prep: Make sure the lawn is dry before application.
2. Fill Your Spreader: Fill your Scotts spreader and adjust to the correct spreader setting.

4. Clean Up: Remember to sweep any stray product off your driveway or sidewalk and back onto the lawn.
Scotts Broadcast/Rotary Spreaders: 3
Scotts Drop Spreaders: 6
For best results, 1/4 to 1/2 inch of water from rainfall or watering immediately after application (or within 2-3 days of application) helps activate the weed preventer and start the feeding process.
Spreader Tips: If using a drop spreader, align the hopper arrow with your previous wheel track. For a broadcast spreader, line up each pass about 5 feet from your previous wheel track.
Product Performance: Rain, snow, or freezing weather will not affect the performance of this product.
Crabgrass Control: This product controls crabgrass in it's early stages of growth. It does not control mature crabgrass and other existing weeds.
4 Month Prevention: Do not rake or aerify your lawn for 4 months after application to avoid disturbing the layer of soil where the product was applied.
Seeding: Do not seed or sod for 4 months following application. The product sets up a barrier in the soil that will also prevent grass seed from sprouting or sod from growing roots.
KIDS & PETS: Keep people and pets off the lawn during application; they can safely reenter the treated area once the dust has settled after application
GEAR UP: Wear closed-toe shoes, a long-sleeved shirt, long pants, and gardening gloves when applying
WASH UP: Avoid contact with your skin, eyes, or clothing, and be sure to wash your hands thoroughly after using
One Bag Per Season, One Year of Great Grass

Halts Crabgrass Preventer with Lawn Food is a pre-emergent weed killer, meaning it stops listed weeds like crabgrass before they sprout. It won't kill actively growing crabgrass or other existing weeds growing in your lawn.
It can. The weed-preventing active ingredient, Pendimethalin, in Halts Crabgrass Preventer with Lawn Food can stain concrete, stone, metal surfaces, and clothing. If it gets on your driveway or patio, just sweep it back onto the lawn. If it gets on your clothes or shoes, brush it off to prevent tracking it into the house.
No, you need to wait. Turf Builder Halts Crabgrass Preventer with Lawn Food prevents seeds from sprouting, which includes your new grass seed. Wait to use this until your new grass is well-established, after the 4th mowing before applying. If you want to use a product that will prevent crabgrass and other listed lawn from sprouting and is also formulated for use with newly planted grass seed, use Scotts Turf Builder Triple Action Built for Seeding.
For best results, apply a crabgrass preventer, like Turf Builder Halts Crabgrass Preventer with Lawn Food, in early spring before crabgrass sprouts. A good rule of thumb is to apply before soil temperatures reach 55°F and daily air temperatures regularly reach the 80s.
If rain is not in the forecast, we recommend giving your lawn a light watering (1/4 to 1/2 inch of water is all you need) within 2-3 days of applying. This helps wash the particles off the grass blades and down into the soil where they can get to work preventing weeds.
Halts Crabgrass Preventer with Lawn Food prevents Barnyard grass, Large Crabgrass, Smooth Crabgrass, Fall panicum, Foxtail, Poa annua, Chickweed, Oxalis (yellow woodsorrel), and Prostrate spurge. For control of spurge a repeat treatment is recommended after 6-8 weeks.
