Dimiter Todorov

Executive Vice President, General Counsel & Corporate Secretary

Dimiter - an experienced corporate and business lawyer - views his role as one that goes beyond being a provider of legal advice to the company’s executive and management teams.

He views his primary responsibility as being a true operator, a business executive with deep legal expertise, guiding the company’s legal and business strategy. By understanding the inner workings of the business, what drives its success and what it needs to deliver shareholder value, he can better participate in business decision making and ultimately deliver business outcomes. He combines this results-driven mindset with his responsibilities as guardian of the company’s integrity, reputation and brands in an ever-changing regulatory and risk environment.

This philosophy has underpinned Dimiter’s career. He joined ScottsMiracle-Gro in 2008 as general counsel to the company’s former International Consumer business unit, traveling often between Marysville, Ohio, and Lyon, France. He ultimately led the successful sale of the International Consumer business as part of a strategic move that ScottsMiracle-Gro undertook to focus on North America growth.

Through the years, Dimiter has held roles of increasing responsibility, both inside and outside the Legal Department, including serving as lead company lawyer for M&A and Strategy, lead lawyer for the North America Consumer business and business/strategy lead for some of the marquee company deals over the last decade. In December 2022, he was named EVP, general counsel, corporate secretary and chief compliance officer.

Dimiter’s career trajectory started with the unique path he took to come to the United States. Born in Bulgaria, he grew up behind the Iron Curtain under communism and was in high school when the Berlin Wall came down. As communism ended and travel restrictions were lifted, he jumped on the opportunity to study in the U.S., where he earned his undergraduate degree from Morningside University and later a law degree from Creighton University Schools of Law.

Prior to joining the company, he spent a decade as an associate and partner at a premier Omaha-based law firm where he advised Fortune 1000 clients on international business transactions, international trade regulation and intellectual property.

In his spare time, Dimiter is an avid motorcyclist, scuba diver and powerlifter. He and his wife live in Columbus, Ohio, where their nonprofessional lives are ruled by two miniature dachshunds.
