Definition
For more than half a century, farmers and gardeners have chosen atrazine to combat tough weeds. It was first registered for use in 1959, and the U.S. EPA recently recommended its re-registration after a comprehensive 10-year safety review. Atrazine kills existing weeds, and it prevents certain new weeds as well. It blocks photosynthesis, leaving weeds unable to produce the energy they need to survive.
