At ScottsMiracle-Gro, we believe everyone has the potential to GroMoreGood in their communities. One way to bring about the good is by exercising our right to vote and make our voice heard. The importance of our voting rights as U.S. citizens cannot be understated. This election cycle, we have strived to ensure our associates have the opportunity to not only exercise their civic duty but also help others to do the same.
One way is through our ScottsVote 2020 effort, led by our Government Relations team. This effort consists of sharing resources with associates so they can be more informed voters. These resources include:
- How to register to vote
- Ways to cast your vote: whether in-person, by mail or via absentee ballot
- List of trusted news outlets
“The ScottsVote 2020 resources answered many of the questions I have about the upcoming election,” said Becky Torisky, senior scientist at ScottsMiracle-Gro. “I believe resources like these help people in our community stay SMART with our votes. That’s how our country has a future.”
Another important part of the effort is our Give Back to Gro Volunteer Days, an associate benefit that provides two paid days off annually for nonprofit volunteering. We give our associates the opportunity to use this benefit to help at the polls on Election Day in ways that involve volunteering in nonpartisan activities that support and enable voter participation, such as being a poll worker, election translator or shuttling people to and from the polls.
“When I heard about the critical need for poll workers on Election Day, I felt inspired to act and serve my community,” said Allison Travis, integrated marketing analyst for ScottsMiracle-Gro. “This service is so important, especially as many older adult volunteers need to stay home because of the pandemic. I’m looking forward to being a part of this election and truly appreciate that Scotts gives us a day off to do so.”
