The American Heart Association’s 2016 Central Ohio Heart Walk was Saturday, August 27, and it was a record-setting event for the American Heart Association and The Scotts Miracle-Gro Company.
More than 30,000 walkers showed up to support the American Heart Association and 1.8 million dollars were raised to fight the AHA’s critical mission of ending heart disease and stroke, America’s No. 1 and No. 5 killers.
The effort was led by ScottsMiracle-Gro’s President and Chief Operating Officer Mike Lukemire, who served as the 2016 Central Ohio Heart Walk Chair. Under Lukemire’s leadership, the Heart Walk raised more funds and recruited more walkers than ever before.
At the Heart Walk, ScottsMiracle-Gro was announced as the No. 1 fundraising company in all of central Ohio. More than 1,060 ScottsMiracle-Gro associates helped to raise $380,000 to join a small group of organizations nationally that have raised $300,000 and above. ScottsMiracle-Gro associate Jim Iovino was honored as the No. 1 fundraiser in all of central Ohio for personally raising $133,000 for the American Heart Association.
ScottsMiracle-Gro has also been recognized as a Platinum-Level Fit-Friendly Worksite by the American Heart Association (AHA) in 2010–2016 for helping associates live healthier lives. Each year, the company has earned platinum-level honors for its commitment to promoting associate wellness and providing a workplace that encourages healthy lifestyles. The Fit-Friendly Worksite program is a catalyst for positive change in the American workforce by helping organizations make their associates’ health and wellness a priority.
