As part of their high school journey in The Legacy Project, students have the opportunity to meet with companies in the Columbus area. This enables them to connect directly with associates, learn what they do and, perhaps, get inspired to pursue a similar career.
Following a recent visit at ScottsMiracle-Gro’s Marysville campus, Kaylie and Jomarley shared their thoughts on the highlights of the day.
Kaylie really enjoyed the opportunity to work with the marketing team and create her own ad: “I really liked when they made us create our own advertisement. I like art and designing things. Creativity is high for me. Not something I want to do as a career, but maybe something on the side.”
Jomarley showed a strong interest in plants after spending time with the R&D team: “The career area that interested me the most was the lady who specializes in plant care. I like her job the most. I love all kinds of plants. Flowers, fruits, veggies, I love them all!”
Kaylie also found it really interesting that Senior Scientist Amy shared that she didn’t think that you could turn gardening into a career. Now, Amy gets to work with plants all day as part of her job.
The students still have plenty of time to figure out what they’d like to do for a career. In the meantime, they were all pretty excited to take home their own plant to take care of. It was a great day for growth for all.
