2, 4-D

Definition

2, 4-D or 2, 4-Dichlorophenoxyacetic acid is one of the most widely used herbicides in the world. In 2004, it was named one of the 75 most important innovations of the last 75 years by The Henry Ford organization.

Since 1945, people have used 2, 4-D to target broadleaf weeds like dandelion, ground ivy and clover that compete with other, desirable plants.

Once absorbed by the weed, 2, 4-D mimics a plant growth compound called auxin, thereby accelerating a weed’s growth so much so that it ultimately dies.
